This succulent groundcover boasts bright golden-yellow foliage that transforms into rich, bronze tones in the fall, creating a stunning seasonal display. It’s drought-tolerant, deer-resistant, and can even tolerate light foot traffic – making it a fantastic living “mulch” in low-maintenance areas of the landscape.
Hardscaping: The Unsung Heroes of the Landscape
Of course, groundcovers aren’t the only way to liven up a tired, lawn-dominated landscape. Hardscaping elements like paths, patios, and dry creek beds can also play a starring role in creating a captivating outdoor oasis. And the best part? Many hardscaping materials require far less upkeep than a traditional lawn.
Take, for example, the timeless beauty of a meandering flagstone path. Not only does it add visual interest and a sense of movement to the landscape, but it also eliminates the need for mowing and watering in that particular area. Or consider the versatility of a decomposed granite patio – it’s a low-maintenance, drought-tolerant alternative to water-hungry grass that can still provide ample space for outdoor dining and entertaining.
And let’s not forget about the ecological benefits of incorporating features like dry creek beds into your landscape design.
